ThinkTV 17-Second Challenge Terms & Conditions

1. Promoter

ThinkTV is a joint industry initiative owned by Television New Zealand Limited (TVNZ) and Sky Network Television Limited trading as Sky New Zealand (Sky New Zealand). The 17-Second Challenge competition is promoted and administered by ThinkTV in association with TVNZ and Sky New Zealand.

2. Competition Period

The competition opens on Monday 25 May 2026 and closes at 5.00pm NZST on Monday 6 July 2026. Entries received after this time may not be accepted.

3. Eligibility

Entry is open to employees of New Zealand media agencies only. Entrants must be aged 18 years or over.

ThinkTV reserves the right to verify entrant eligibility and employment status.

4. Entry Requirements

Entries must be submitted as a 17-second video via the official competition entry process.

Two people may be named as the official entrants on each entry. Both named entrants must work within the same media agency in New Zealand. If entering from a multi disciplinary agency, both entrants must work within the media division of that business.

Entrants may submit multiple entries.

Entries must be of sufficient technical quality for broadcast consideration, including acceptable picture and sound quality.

Entries must comply with all applicable New Zealand laws, Advertising Standards Authority codes, broadcasting standards, CAB requirements and platform policies.

5. Intellectual Property, AI and Rights Clearances

Entrants warrant that they hold all necessary rights, licences, permissions and consents required for television broadcast, publication, promotion and related commercial use of all materials submitted as part of the entry.

This includes, without limitation, all music, footage, imagery, trademarks, performances, voices, likenesses, scripts, designs, artwork, stock material and any AI generated material incorporated into the submission.

Entrants must only use material they fully own or are legally entitled to use for television broadcast and promotional purposes.

Entrants are solely responsible for ensuring that any AI generated material does not infringe third party intellectual property rights, privacy rights, publicity rights, platform terms, copyright protections or applicable laws.

Where real people appear in an entry, entrants must obtain all required written permissions and consents for broadcast and promotional use.

ThinkTV, TVNZ and Sky New Zealand reserve the right to request evidence of ownership, licences, releases, permissions or consents at any stage of the competition process.

Entrants indemnify ThinkTV, TVNZ and Sky New Zealand against any loss, claim, liability, damage, cost or expense arising from any breach of these warranties or from any third party claim relating to the submitted entry.

6. Prohibited Content

Entries must not contain unlawful, defamatory, misleading, discriminatory, offensive, unsafe or irresponsible material.

Entries must not contain unauthorised brand use, misleading claims, unlawful depictions, harmful stereotypes, excessive alcohol promotion, illegal gambling references or material likely to breach advertising or broadcasting standards.

ThinkTV reserves the right to disqualify any entry considered unsuitable for publication, promotion or broadcast.

7. Judging

Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, attention-grabbing execution and overall effectiveness in maintaining viewer attention.

The judging panel will consist of:

  • Jacqueline Freeman, GM Communications, ThinkTV
  • David Thomason, Creative Strategist
  • Simon Lendrum, CEO, Communications Council
  • Matt Pickering, Chief Marketing Officer, ANZ Bank

All judging decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

8. Broadcast and Usage Rights

Winning entrants grant ThinkTV, TVNZ and Sky New Zealand a non-exclusive licence to use, edit, reproduce, adapt, publish, promote and broadcast the winning entry across television, digital, social, promotional, publicity and related media channels in connection with ThinkTV and its activities.

The winning entry will receive national broadcast exposure on TVNZ and Sky New Zealand as part of ThinkTV’s 2026 Attention campaign.

Broadcast scheduling, placement, frequency, airtime allocation and campaign duration remain entirely at the discretion of ThinkTV, TVNZ and Sky New Zealand.

The winning entry is subject to final broadcast approval by ThinkTV, TVNZ, Sky New Zealand and CAB clearance requirements prior to broadcast.

Winning entries may be edited or post-produced by ThinkTV for broadcast suitability.

Non-winning entries will not be broadcast without the entrant’s additional permission.

9. Prize

The prize package includes:

  • Two premium allocated seating tickets to J. Cole’s The Fall Off Tour at Spark Arena on Sunday 6 December 2026.
  • Access for two to the Spark Arena Premium Lounge experience.
  • One night accommodation on Sunday 6 December 2026 in two standard guest rooms at Park Hyatt Auckland.
  • Long lunch at The Hotel Britomart for two to a maximum value of NZD $400.
  • Brunch for two at Park Hyatt Auckland on Monday 7 December 2026.
  • Return domestic economy airfares within New Zealand, if required, including one checked bag per person.
  • Return transfers associated with the prize experience, including transfers between Auckland Airport and Park Hyatt Auckland or between the winners’ Auckland residential address and Park Hyatt Auckland, and return transfers between Park Hyatt Auckland and Spark Arena.

Transfers may be shared where practical. Individual transfer distances are capped at 50km.

Total prize pool valued at approximately NZD $5,000.

Prizes are not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash.

10. Prize Changes and Event Cancellation

If any advertised prize component becomes unavailable for reasons beyond ThinkTV’s reasonable control, including event cancellation, venue changes, scheduling changes, travel disruption or artist tour changes, ThinkTV reserves the right to substitute that component with an alternative of comparable value.

ThinkTV, TVNZ and Sky New Zealand are not responsible for changes made by third party event providers, venues, airlines or accommodation providers.

11. Winner Notification

Winners will be notified during the week commencing 13 July 2026 using the contact details provided in the entry form.

If a winner cannot be contacted within five working days, ThinkTV reserves the right to select an alternative winner.

12. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ThinkTV, TVNZ and Sky New Zealand exclude liability for any loss, damage, injury, technical failure, corrupted upload, delayed transmission or other issue arising directly or indirectly from the competition or prize.

Nothing in these terms excludes any rights that cannot be excluded under New Zealand law.

13. Privacy

Personal information collected as part of the competition will be used for the administration, judging, promotion and operation of the competition and may be shared with ThinkTV, TVNZ, Sky New Zealand and associated competition administration partners.

By entering the competition, entrants consent to this use of their information.

Entrants may request access to or correction of their personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.

14. General

ThinkTV reserves the right to amend, suspend, postpone or cancel the competition where reasonably necessary.

By entering the competition, entrants acknowledge that they have read, understood and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
